Pretzel Bite Platter with Beer Cheese
Soft pretzel bites and warm beer cheese dip for ten
Homemade or bakery pretzel bites are warmed until soft, served alongside a sharp beer cheese sauce and honey mustard. The platter is built for grazing while eyes stay on the screen.
Why crews like it: Dipping food keeps hands busy and conversation easy. Pretzel bites reheat without getting tough, and beer cheese feels like a treat even on a department budget.

Ingredients
- 3.2 lb soft pretzel bites
- 3/4 lb sharp cheddar cheese
- 6.4 oz cream cheese
- 9.6 oz lager beer
- 1 3/4 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 7/8 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 7/8 tsp garlic powder
- 3/4 cup honey mustard
- 1 3/4 tbsp coarse salt
- 3.4 tbsp unsalted butter
Instructions
- Make the beer cheese: Melt cream cheese in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Whisk in cheddar gradually, then beer, Dijon, Worcestershire, and garlic powder until smooth and velvety.
- Hold the dip warm: Transfer beer cheese to a slow cooker on warm or a double boiler setup. Stir every 10 minutes and add beer by the tablespoon if the sauce thickens too much.
- Warm pretzel bites: Toss frozen pretzel bites with melted butter and coarse salt. Spread on sheet pans and bake at 400°F until heated through and lightly crisp at the edges, about 12–15 minutes. Target oven/smoker temperature: 400°F.
- Build the platter: Pile warm pretzel bites on a large board with ramekins of beer cheese and honey mustard. Sprinkle extra coarse salt over the bites for that brewpub crunch.
- Serve and replenish: Set out tongs and small plates. Replenish warm bites from the oven in batches so the platter never looks picked over during a long game.
Tonight's spread
- Large pretzel board with beer cheese, honey mustard, and sliced pickles.
- Slaw cups for crews who want crunch between salty, cheesy bites.
Hall tips
- Use sharp cheddar—mild cheese makes beer cheese taste flat and greasy.
- A pinch of cornstarch whisked into cold beer prevents the sauce from breaking on hold.
- Add pickled jalapeño slices to the beer cheese if the crew wants heat without extra dishes.
Meal prep
Beer cheese can be made ahead and reheated gently with a splash of beer. Pretzel bites from the freezer bake directly—do not thaw or they absorb moisture.
Leftovers
- Reheat beer cheese with beer over low heat—never microwave or it separates.
- Turn extra bites into bread pudding with cheddar and scallions.
- Slow cooker
- Sheet pans
- Saucepan
- Whisk
- Serving board
